Civilian Aviation

Even though the early days of aviation were largely driven and funded for military applications, the technology and knowledge that ensued over a very short time quickly found its way to civilian applications and the men & women who saw that entire industries and services could be built around private aviation.

Names like Piper, Cessna, Taylor, Hughes, Beech, Ryan, Lear, and Sikorsky are but a few of the more well known individuals who have had profound impact on the advent of General Aviation.

Companies like Delta, TWA, United, and American Airlines pioneered the early days of commercial air travel in the United States.  The Flying Tigers, later FedEx, UPS, Polar, Evergreen and others have covered the world transporting products, medicine, packages and mail to everyone’s benefit

Both Military and Civilian, entities like Boeing, Pratt&Whitney, Douglas, Lycoming, Curtis, Continental, Warner, Lockheed and Wright led the way in the development of aircraft and power plants

If it weren’t for these people and organizations, their vision, drive and perseverance, we would not have the availability, freedoms and convenience that Private Aviation provides us today.
