From the earliest days of Gliders, Balloons and the Airplane, the military application was obvious.
Whether it was for Reconnaissance, Covert Delivery, Clandestine Operations, Psychological Impact, Air to Air Combat, Precision Bombing, Search & Rescue, Ground Support or Movement of Personnel
& Supplies, the incorporation of aviation into the military stratagem was not only inevitable, aircraft and aerial delivery systems are now the primary “First Strike & Defensive” weapons systems of the US
Military.
It is now held by most military strategists, that the projection of “Air Power” is the most important criteria by which a country is judged to determine its military capability.
The progress of aviation can be largely attributed to the demands placed upon its designers and builders from the military establishment, those advancements ultimately finding their way into
civilian applications.
It would be a difficult call to determine which has benefited more:
Military from Aviation or Aviation from the Military
